In Your Practice
Did you know that the most cited barrier to care for transgender individuals, whether medical or mental, is the
fear of being met with practitioners who can not provide a safe treatment environment? We can work to
eliminate this barrier.
Making your Practice Safe, Inclusive and Affirming for Transgender Individuals
Everyone deserves the right to get medical and mental health treatment in an environment that feels safe. Feeling safe goes beyond a clinician having "knowledge" about their clients transgender status. Safety also includes the way you set up your office, how your staff answers the phone, or even the way your intake forms are written. This workshop will give a brief overview on transgender individuals and help you identify areas in your practice that you can improve upon, as well as come up with action items to be implemented immediately.
TRANSGENDER MENTAL HEALTH - Going Beyond Theory
Working as an affirmative clinician
While many mental health clinicians would like to think they are able to work with the transgender community, there is often a lack of knowledge around what is considered "best practice". No theoretical model teaches clinician's the "right" way to formulate treatment plans or go about setting goals. This workshop will give a brief overview on transgender individuals and highlight key mental health components when treating your clients. It will also provide examples of coping skills and affirmative treatment techniques.
