About Jacob
Jacob Rostovsky, He/Him/His, is a licensed psychotherapist and the CEO and founder of Queer Works, an LGBTQ+ mental health and homeless outreach non-profit in the Coachella Valley. He has been working in the field of training and development for over 17 years, primarily focused around transgender and non-binary inclusion and affirmative care practices.
Jacob came out as transgender at 13 years old, and since then has dedicated his life to fighting the injustices his community faces. Jacob was bullied, discriminated against, and harassed throughout his youth, but recognized the privilege he had to overcome these obstacles and hopes to provide the same support to help others thrive.
When he was a teenager and young adult, Jacob appeared on Oprah, Buzzfeed, Dr. Phil and global news sources to bring a unique and dynamic voice to an often ignored cause. The work he did in his youth translated to the activism and creation of his non-profit. When working at NBCUniversal’s Talent Development team, Jacob worked on bringing diversity and inclusion to each training and development experience. While Jacob sat as the Chair of the West Hollywood Transgender Advisory Board, he took an active role in influencing legislation both locally and nationally.
As a licensed therapist, Jacob recognized in his educational journey the need for specific LGBTQ+ affirmative mental health care. Queer Works was founded with the hope to provide free and affirmative services for the community. In July 2021, Queer Works received a sizeable grant to launch their outreach services and telehealth mental health program. Within the last year Jacob and his team has been able to service 190 individuals, putting most of them in free affirmative therapy. Queer Works most recently launched their mobile case management and shower unit in July of 2022.
Jacob is also working with DAP Health and Palm Springs Councilmember Christy Holstege to advocate, design and implement a Universal Basic Income pilot throughout Palm Springs which will give up to 180 individuals unrestricted monthly stipends for 18 months with a focus on the transgender and nonbinary community.
